On the face of it, certain recent announcements don’t seem to bode well for the recruitment market in banking

Barclays has decided to cut 1,100 jobs at its processing centre in Dorset. The company is increasing the degree of automation for cheque processing. Nationwide, the UK’s biggest building society, anticipates about 900 jobs will go following its merger with smaller rival Portman this summer.
