Clarks creates 80 jobs at new unit in Somerset

Footwear firm Clarks is to create 80 jobs at a new manufacturing unit at its headquarters in Somerset.

The Irish News reports the facility in Street, to the South of Glastonbury, will have the capacity to produce 300,000 pairs of the retailer's Desert Boots, and will apply "robot-assisted" technology to specific shoe constructions for the first time.

Around 80 technical and managerial jobs will be created in the village, where the company first started shoe manufacturing nearly 200 years ago in 1825.
