Job board Monster’s European Employment Index demonstrates year-on-year growth of 6% in online job opportunities, with the index hitting 144 for April, but Germany continues to be the only nation exhibiting strong growth.

While Germany’s Index rose 19% year-on-year to 190, the only other nations showing growth were the UK and Italy, at 1% apiece.Italy saw 1% decline in the index, France saw its figure go down 5%, while much larger declines were seen in Belgium (14%) and the Netherlands (20%).

Agriculture, fishing and forestry was the sole index showing growth of over 10% at 11%, while production, manufacturing, maintenance & repair, and environment, architecture and urbanism saw 8% growth.

Only one industry – public sector, defence & community, saw online job decline of over 3% at 7%.

Alan Townsend, vice president of sales readiness and business operations for Monster Europe, says: "Although online recruitment remains positive at 6% in April's Index, the uncertainty of the broader climate continues to impact online recruitment across the EU, where we see general deceleration of growth in all regions.”
