Companies set to hire new staff in the UK are led by today’s announcement from fast food giant McDonald’s that it intends to create at least 2,500 new jobs this year.

Other firms set to hire include power firm Alston and food producers Müller Wiseman and Solway Foods.

The hiring drive at McDonald’s would see UK workforce grow to 93,500 by the end of 2013, following 3,500 extra staff bought in last year, of which 70% where under 21.

International power and infrastructure firm Alstom has around 500 job vacancies currently open across its businesses in the UK, following a global 3% uplift in orders in the third quarter of 2012/13, including £835m in the UK.

Best known for its yoghurts, Müller is investing £17m in a new butter plant in Shropshire, that will create over 100 jobs by the end of the year, with production due to begin in the autumn. Over 1,000 people already work for the firm on other facilities on the same Market Drayton site.

Part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, Solway will take on 100 new staff at its Manton Wood Enterprise Park site based in Nottinghamshire, which currently has around 1,200 permanent workers. Solway supplies retail customers including Costa Coffee and Tesco.
