Seek, one of the largest job boards in Asia Pacific, looks set to take on professional networking site LinkedIn with an advanced talent-search option.

When asked for more information, a Seek representative referred Recruiter to an article in The Australian, which said the company was focusing on tailoring a product for hirers wanting to search its growing talent database.

Previously, hirers could search the database but only linked to an advertisement; now it can be searched generally.

The offering was quietly trialled with recruitment firms for six months, before being rolled out generally over the past two months.

The service is now being used by corporate and government clients.

Seek users are charged for the service, but it is not clear how much it costs.

The Seek representative told Recruiter: “Seek is not ‘just a job board’ but an online talent marketplace, whereby we are delivering the best search and matching experience to candidates and hirers.”

Seek this morning released its May Australian employment report, showing new job ads fell nationally 3.1% in May, partially reversing the 4.7% gain recorded in April. However, job advertising across Australia was 8% higher year-on-year.

The report said a pull-back in mining investment has had significant impact on the combined manufacturing, transport and logistics industry but job ads in this industry have been rising in non-mining related states.

Within transport and logistics, jobs in public transport and taxi services, including courier drivers and delivery services, are driving up employment with 43% year-on-year growth.
