Trainee Recruitment Consultant – Edinburgh HQ
Cathcart Associates are looking for a number of trainees to join our Edinburgh HQ and continue our rapid expansion as we strive to become the UK's biggest (and most successful) independent technology recruitment consultancy.

The year was 2009 and two of Scotland's – hell??? the UK's – most successful recruiters decided enough was enough and they wanted to set up their own recruitment business, focusing on quality and passion for doing recruitment properly.
Fast forward ten years, two office moves (another one pending), a regional expansion, an international expansion (we have an office in Bangkok) and successfully working with some of the most exciting businesses in the UK, we aren't planning on slowing down any time soon.
Whilst everyone claims to have a great company culture, they usually mean they have a beer fridge and ping pong table. Whilst we do have a beer fridge, we also have a proper company culture. Our staff retention rate is unheard of in the world of technology, never mind recruitment! This is mainly down to us looking after our staff, rewarding success and creating a structure which means everyone has a voice and a career path.

We don't hire recruitment consultants. Why do you care about that? Well, our entire leadership team is made up of people who joined the business as trainees. The sky is the limit for you and unlike many recruitment companies, we don't care how long you've worked here or have some arbitrary promotion process – if you deserve it, you get it.
We're not going to sit here and claim you'll earn GBP500k in your first year and drive a Ferrari. However, if you listen, work hard and immerse yourself into the role, it is more than feasible that you'll be earning considerably more than the average in Edinburgh.

What will I be doing every day?
Recruitment is often described as fast paced, varied and fairly intense. All of these adjectives are true, but they don't really give you much insight into the role.
You will be given all the tools and training to become a very good recruitment professional.
After an initial 3–6 month training period, where you'll learn the ropes, you will be responsible for the following:
** Identifying potential customers and using your powers of persuasion to convince them to use your service. This includes negotiating commercial agreements with a wide array of companies.
** Finding and influencing technology professionals and convincing them that your customers are offering them a career they'd be willing to trade in their current role for – no mean feat btw!
** Immersing yourself in the technology sector and attending/organising technology events, meet–ups and conferences.
** Being responsible for the entire recruitment lifecycle from initial contact to organising interviews, finalising employment offers and post–placement care.
The beauty of this role is that it can suit almost anyone. For example, we have someone with a Fine Art Degree who is now a Director, ex–car salesmen, a Physics Grad (also a director), an MSc in Psychology and pretty much everything in between.
The thing they all have in common is a drive to succeed, a competitive edge and a focus on quality.
If you happen to be a Sales Development Representative (SDR), Business Development Representative (BDR), Business Development Manager (BDM) Marketing Development Representative (MDR), Account Executive (AE), Sales Representative (SR), Car Sales Person, Tele Sales Rep or historian (ok maybe not???) – then you will most likely have some of the skills we need.
However, this list isn't exhaustive, not even close!
