Despite an ageing population, employers are discriminating against older employees. But what is the government doing about it?

Ademographic timebomb is waiting to go off in the UK. It's all to do with negative birth rates, and it means that the population is ageing fast. By 2005, over 36 per cent of the workforce will be over 45. By 2010, nearly 40 per cent will be over 45. And by that time, only 17 per cent of the workforce will be between 16 and 24 years of age.
