Attach and apply on the move app

TweetJobs and software developer Burnsoft, which are run by former recruiters Richard Sutcliffe and Nik Burns, respectively, have launched their iPhone app which includes the facility for candidates to send a CV.

The developers believe it is one of the first programs to allow candidates to attach a CV (and multiple versions of it) and apply for a job directly through the app.

“We actually had our first application on the day it was released,” said Sutcliffe. “Once you have applied for a job, the app also puts the details in your calendar and sets a reminder for you to follow it up.”

Sutcliffe told Recruiter that in the past a candidate would typically send an email to a consultant about a job or register on a website before using an app. “Having to come out of an app seemed to defeat the object. Everyone talks about mobile recruitment but it hasn’t really been mobile on apps before. This is about keeping everything in the same place,” he said. “Having worked in recruitment I know if you send an email to a consultant without a CV to support your application, nine times out of 10 you will be ignored unless you follow this up with a call. Now a candidate can send their CV and apply on the move through the app.”

The app, which is free to candidates, will initially be launched for the IT industry, with other sectors following (accountancy is expected to be next). Job vacancies that are sent via the app come from TweetJob.net customers. The app also takes advantage of the iPhone’s location awareness functionality such as GPS, so if an IT contractor candidate arrives in Manchester, for example, they receive all the IT jobs in that area.
